Kiara Advani most-searched person in India this year, ‘Farzi’ tops trending OTT shows

As we wrap up 2023, Google has released Year in Search 2023—a list of the year’s most trending searches. Bollywood actress Kiara Advani was the most-searched personality in India this year. 

According to the report, while Kiara topped the list of persons, her actor husband Siddharth Malhotra also featured on the list. The couple tied the knot in February this year, and an adorable moment from their wedding ceremony had gone viral.

Bigg Boss OTT fame Elvish Yadav also found a spot on the list of trending persons in India this year. Yadav, winner of season 2 of the reality show, made news recently after he was booked in the snake venom case.

While 2023 witnessed the death of several celebrated actors and musicians, Indians grieved the most over the passing of Bollywood actor Satish Kaushik and Friends star Matthew Perry. While Kaushik is on the fourth spot on the most-searched ‘news events’ in India this year, Perry is at the eighth position. Kaushik, who has featured in memorable roles in over 100 films, suffered a heart attack on March 8. He was last seen in the Amazon Prime series Guns and Gulaabs this year. Perry, who essayed the charming Chandler Bing on the much-loved sitcom, was found dead in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home on October 28.

Most-searched movies and shows in India

Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan, which scripted box office records this year, tops the list of films that trended this year. The Atlee-directorial is followed by Gadar 2 on the list. Christopher Nolan’s epic Oppenheimer is the only global film on the list, which is dominated by Indian movies.

South Indian movies clearly made a mark this year with Rajinikanth’s Jailer, and Vijay’s Leo and Varisu on the list. Other films that trended this year include the controversial The Kerala Story, Prabhas’s Adipurush, Shah Rukh’s Pathaan and Salman Khan’s Tiger.

Interestingly Jawan, Gadar 2 and Pathaan feature on the list of most-searched movies globally too.

From the streaming space, Shahid Kapoor’s OTT debut Farzi captured the hearts of Indians this year. The black-comedy crime thriller also featured Vijay Sethupati. American series Wednesday takes the second spot, followed by Asur. Indian content dominated the trends this year with shows like Rana Naidu, Scam 2003, Bigg Boss 17, Guns and Gulaabs and Taaza Khabar featuring on the list of most-searched shows in India. HBO’s post-apocalyptic thriller The Last of Us also finds a spot on the list.
